A GREENER STEP FORWARD: SUSTAINABILITY AT THE HEART OF OUR CONFERENCE CENTRE REFRESH
At Tigh-Na-Mara, sustainability is more than a value — it's a commitment woven into every decision we make. As part of our recent Conference Centre upgrades, we’re proud to share not only a more comfortable and wellness-focused space, but also a meaningful environmental milestone.
When it came time to recarpet our 10,000 sq. ft. Conference Centre, we made it a priority to do so responsibly. While introducing new, eco-conscious flooring to improve indoor air quality and guest comfort, we also ensured that the old carpet was recycled through a certified program, rather than sent to landfill.
Through this process, we diverted an impressive 1,691 square yards of carpet — the equivalent of 8,454 pounds of material — from landfill. This action helped us save 1,479 gallons of oil and avoid 13.4 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. We’re proud to have earned a PACC certificate (Partners for Action on Carpet Certification) in recognition of this achievement.
Our updated flooring is also carbon-neutral, PVC-free, and manufactured using zero waste to landfill practices — all contributing to a healthier environment for our guests and community.

The Grotto Spa at Tigh-Na-Mara Resort is thrilled to announce the arrival of Chef Lukas Exelby, a renowned culinary artist with a remarkable background in the hotel and restaurant industry, as the new Head Chef of the Treetop Tapas & Grill. Chef Lukas brings with him a passion and expertise, honed through years of experience at establishments such as The Empress Hotel, Saveur Restaurant, and Union Club in Victoria, BC.

UNVEILING OF THE GROTTO AT CANADA'S #1 SPA

Grotto Spa, recently awarded the #1 Spa in Canada by Spas of America, proudly announces the unveiling of its latest transformation: "The Grotto." Representing a $2.5 million investment, updates include fully renovated locker rooms and will introduce an elevated experience called The Grotto, a blend of nature-inspired elements featuring the introduction of 4 cedar barrel saunas set in an outdoor garden patio.
Please note that Cedar's Restaurant and Lounge is open during the Spa and Treetop Renovations.

After over four decades of dedicated service in the hospitality industry, Paul Drummond, the General Manager at Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort, has announced his retirement. His departure marks the end of an era characterized by profound contributions to the resort, the community, and the broader tourism sector.

Air Conditioning: All ocean view rooms have air conditioning and all Spa Bungalows will have air conditioning as of July 1st, 2024. Cottages and Jedidiah guestrooms do not have air conditioning yet but all have sliding doors with screens leading out to a private balcony, patio or deck area. Like the majority of resorts in Parksville not all our guestrooms are air-conditioned, however plans are in place to install air conditioning in every room. In the meantime, every guestroom has a fan, and additional fans can be delivered on request. And unlike other resorts, we enjoy year-round ocean breezes and beautiful shaded woodland, not to mention ocean swimming and an indoor pool, to keep you cool.
FIRE STARTER
We are excited to announce our transition to locally-made and environmentally responsible FIRE STARTER!
We have partnered with One Light Fire Starter to supply the fire starter for the rustic cottages. As Assistant General Manager, JIm Hykaway notes,
"It checks a lot of boxes – green (recycled), non-profit social enterprise,
inclusive employer and local. It lines up with our goals and values and just makes sense."
Made locally in Powell River, BC, One Light Fire Starter will start your fire in minutes without kindling and is made with 99% recycled materials that are diverted from the waste stream. One Light is a social enterprise created in 2020 with a vision for inclusive employment in manufacturing with the added goal of creating products made from recycled materials. Their fire starter is manmade with recycled untreated lumber, paper rolls, candle wax and a wix.

We are excited to announce our transition to locally-made and environmentally responsible amenities from Beauty Through Balance! These formulations are all natural, superior quality, and free of commonly used synthetics. Beauty Through Balance has long been a partner with The Grotto Spa and we are pleased to expand that relationship to bring spa luxury to the rest of the resort.
Plus, with our new refillable dispensers, we are taking an eco-friendly approach by eliminating a large amount of plastic waste, switching away from single use plastic bottles while also being able to guarantee cleanliness and safety for each guest. Retail sizes are available in our Pines Gift Shop for memories that can come home with you from the first resort to have BTB as in-house amenities!
Be uplifted and refreshed with the Canadian Forest Elements line, scented with spruce hemlock, fir needle, fir balsam, pine, cypress, sweet orange, white grapefruit, and mint. With actives including hemp seed oil and specialized herbal extracts, your skin and hair will benefit, not just your nose!
